Where Saints Have Trod

Cities4Life™ is a LIFE saving ministry made primarily of volunteers. Our volunteers come from all different backgrounds, churches, and denominations. We are Baptists, Methodists, Pentecostals, Presbyterians, Lutherans, and others. I believe this ministry is truly a display of the body of Christ unifying over an issue that is close to our Father’s heart. And when you think of it, if we can’t unify over the issue of LIFE, then we are a sad display of what God intended for His church to be. By God’s grace I am blessed to see our teams 6 days a week team up, regardless of minor doctrinal differences, and shine the light of the Gospel at the darkest places in our city. After all, the job of being a voice to the voiceless in our city doesn’t rest on a particular denomination or any single fellowship, but on the body of Christ as a whole in the city.

13697149_1640375422946606_7787458367188698517_nAs we were reaching out last week at Charlotte’s busiest abortion clinic I began to notice something I haven’t noticed before. As I said earlier, our teams are on the sidewalks in front of Charlotte’s busiest abortion clinic 6 days a week. The lawn of the abortion clinic and the grass of the business park is fairly well maintained and covered with grass, but I noticed that the grass is worn to the dirt in front of the abortion clinic. It struck me,”This is where the saints have been, pouring out their hearts in prayer and lending their voices to those in our city who have no voice!” When I think of the sacrifices our volunteers make sometimes I weep. These are some of the most Godly but also down-to-earth people you will ever meet. Some people may view reaching out with the Gospel at an abortion clinic as a radical thing done by radical people, but the truth is these are homeschool moms with their kids, retirees, single ladies and guys, pastors, small families, large families…really just Christians who just can’t remain silent while this atrocity called abortion is taking place in their city. To be salt and light as Jesus called us to be is not radical, it’s normal. In Matthew 5:13-16 Jesus teaches His disciples, “You are the salt of the earth…You are the light of the world…Let your light so shine before men…” From my view this passage defines who our volunteers are.

So far this year Cities4Life has seen 314 moms choose LIFE at the abortion clinics in Charlotte. In addition, this year we’ve been a part of numerous Gospel centered baby showers and seen God graciously save at least 10 souls right in front of Charlotte’s busiest abortion clinic. Knowing all of this awesome work that God has allowed us to be a part of now you can see why I was so encouraged by some bare spots of ground where the saints have trod. I know there may be those reading this that are concerned about the grass and what can be done to bring it back to life, but I can say with confidence that until abortion is ended in our city and the lives of the unborn are protected fully, you should expect to continue to see bare spots in front of the abortion clinics in Charlotte. But I do make this vow. When abortion comes to an end I will personally show up with several bags of seed and plant new grass, but until then there’s no point it will just wear away as the children of God shine the Light of Truth in front of these places of darkness.

Here’s what one of our sidewalk counselors posted a few weeks ago on Facebook which helped inspire me to write this blogpost,
