Volunteer Spotlight: November

It’s time for our monthly volunteer spotlight. We LOVE our volunteers! They are so selfless, giving and God-honoring. We are comprised of volunteers who range anywhere from retired grandparents to single young people, and everything in between, there is no mold to fit into to be part of Cities4Life™. The only thing that is required is that you love Jesus, have committed your life to Him, and that you love your neighbor as yourself.

Our October volunteer spotlight is a young woman who has volunteered with Cities4Life for two and a half years now. Meet Jessica Mauney!

Jessica is 25 years old, is a homeschool graduate and has 6 siblings (four biological and two adopted)! She was born and raised right here in North Carolina, and she currently works part time for her dad’s business, which she says is a blessing that allows her to have flexible hours making ministry involvement possible! Jessica worships at Matthews Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Matthews, NC.

Jessica1Jessica became involved with Cities4Life after a friend of hers became involved with a pro-life ministry in Florida.

She says, “I started hearing the stories about both the great and horrible things that happen at abortion centers. Up until then I had no idea that late-term abortion was legal, but I also had no idea how effective people standing in front of abortion centers were!”

She figured that there was probably no one in Charlotte, doing anything similar, but right around that time she was connected to Cities4Life through another homeschooling family.

“I realized I didn’t want to just be pro-life, I wanted to actively do something about it,” she says.

She attended the frontline training we offer, and the rest is history, she has been faithfully serving weekly on our Thursday team ever since.

One of her favorite aspects of Cities4Life is the Gospel focus of the ministry, and the opportunity to serve alongside fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.

Jessica says, “Not only am I privileged to serve alongside some very godly and wise people, but there is a wonderful connection and community that’s created when you’ve worked on the frontlines together.”

She expressed gratitude for the training and mentoring that Cities4Life provides. It has helped her feel more prepared and equipped to reach out to mothers in crisis. And the most important thing Jessica could share about the ministry of Cities4Life, it would be, “Sidewalk counseling works! It is incredible to watch God soften even the hardest of hearts, even at the last possible moment.”

We are so grateful for Jessica and her family! In addition to volunteering faithfully every week, they also maintain our blessing bag ministry, that we bless each mom who chooses life with.  We couldn’t do this vital work without each one of our volunteers.  And are so thankful for those who hear the call and are moved to action!
