We have many volunteers with Cities4Life who travel a great distance in order to stand with us in front of the busiest abortion clinic in the Southeast, here in Charlotte, NC. Why? Who would anyone travel 3 hours round trip to speak with abortion-determined women where they can well expect to be taunted, ridiculed, falsely maligned, and sometimes even threatened?
The reasons volunteers so faithfully and steadfastly desire to speak for the unborn in such a hostile place is that they recognize if they don’t…who will?
Our volunteers come from a variety of backgrounds but there are some strong similarities. All of them love the Lord. All feel the Lord’s call to not remain silent in the face of the great evil of child murder in the form of abortion. All know that to remain silent is to be complicit before God in the holocaust of abortion. All understand that abortion is one of the greatest evils of all humanity and is the tool of Satan to destroy families. All desire to serve Jesus by serving the most vulnerable among us.
Katy is one such volunteer. Listen to her humble explanation of why she travels so far to stand with other Cities4Life sidewalk counselors speaking for the unborn:
When I was 18, I had an abortion. I know the hurt and pain abortion can cause in a woman’s life. That abortion led me down a long road of drug abuse until I was addicted to IV drugs, specifically heroin and meth.
I know God wants to use those terrible experiences to help others. God has healed a lot in my life and made my broken things blessed things! He has also opened my eyes to the holocaust of abortion that is happening all over the country. I can’t sit idly by while babies are being mass murdered! I drive an hour and a half to minister on the sidewalks of the abortion clinic on Latrobe Dr. I pray that more and more people act with urgency.
I believe it is everyone’s calling and is a commandment to love thy neighbor. Those unborn babies are our neighbors, as are their mothers bent on this terrible destructive action.
I cannot remain silent.
Like Katy, we must understand that silence is not an option. As those who are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus, we must do what we can to protect the lives of the unborn.
