A Dark Season but There’s Still Light

As the months get colder and colder winter seems to bring not only a chill and a natural darkness but for some even a spiritual darkness. When winter approaches I’m typically not so thrilled. As our volunteer teams reach out at the local abortion clinics, no matter the weather it can be difficult and draining, however in the winter time it’s even more of a challenge. Some days the air is so frigid you can’t move your lips. Escape from the cold on the sidewalk isn’t easy, because as cars are rushing in to the parking lot if we abandon our post we could miss the opportunity to reach a mom in need.  The winter months are definitely the most difficult but as you know the Lord doesn’t call us to do the easy things but the hard. He says in Matthew 16:24, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” In light of the sacrifices our brothers and sisters all over the world make to bring the Gospel to those who are lost, standing in the cold for a few hours is a very small cross to bear.

We know that the women we see going into the abortion centers are in a very dark season on their lives. The enemy’s lies have engulfed them and like the chilly air that numbs your face on a cold day, satan’s feigned promises have numbed their hearts. Let’s be honest, we’ve all at some point in our lives fallen prey to the temptation to take the easy way out of a situation and rather than trusting the Lord we’ve trusted the devil. Of course this is no excuse for sin because the scripture says in 1 Corinthians 10:13, No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.” This means that when we fall for temptation and sin we can’t blame the devil, we make a choice to reject God’s provision and there by refuse to take the way of escape that the Lord makes. But satan does employ his heart numbing schemes and we see them at work everyday as women go into these abortion centers to destroy the innocent lives of their children 6 days a week.

As a Gospel centered ministry our goal is to counteract the lies of the enemy with the truth of God’s word. By God’s grace we seek to step right in the midst of a dark season and bring light. A woman may believe the lie that her baby isn’t really a precious life, but we proclaim, “Every life is precious in the eyes of the Lord! Your baby is fearfully and wonderfully made by the hands of God!” They are told they can’t make it financially, however we declare, “God will supply all of your needs according to His riches in glory!” They are told that they are all alone but the truth rings out from God’s heart and our lips, “We will walk with you through this difficult season!” God’s word says, “If God is for you who can be against you?”

Just last week we encountered a young lady entering the Latrobe abortion center. She was obviously duped by the devil into going to the clinic for a quick fix to her “problem”. As she pulled in however one of volunteers handed her literature that shares the truth about her baby and the resources we offer. She heard our volunteers graciously call out to her as she was walking into the abortion center. She went inside and stayed for only a short time. After a few minutes she came back out and sat in her car reading the pro-life information. She decided to leave the abortion center but as she was pulling out one of the pro-abortion volunteers in the parking lot told her not to stop and talk to us because we had nothing to offer her. We counteracted that lie by saying we have all sorts of resources and that she was free to stop and talk with us if she wanted to. She did end up stopping to talk and even pulled over and went onboard the mobile ultrasound unit to get a free ultrasound. She chose LIFE that day in spite of all of the deception of satan. As she was leaving her face was beaming like a bright light. She said to the volunteer that handed her literature as she entered the clinic parking lot “Thank you so much, that booklet really helped me!”

By the grace of God we will continue to be light day in and day out, even in the cold and dark seasons.  We are thankful that He uses us to touch lives even in front of an abortion center!  Please consider coming alongside our sidewalk teams with a one-time or even a monthly financial gift. In addition to financial support we also need prayer support and volunteers willing to stand for LIFE in our city. We’d love to have you partner with us in any way you feel God calling you to. Click on a link below to get involved!
